With the Government’s plan to help UK companies double exports and sell products around the world, the release of the first roadmap to net zero for the sector and ongoing skills shortages, Manufacturing and Engineering Week (8-9th June 2022) comes at a crucial time to bring the community together to debate and discuss the current challenges.
M&E Week covers the entire product lifecycle from design, engineering, manufacturing and maintenance and seeks to celebrate the sector sharing successes and future insight, raising critical discussion and is a destination for professionals to source products and services in order to keep them competitive.
The week hosts a series of digital sessions plus 4 Live co-located events on the 8-9 June 2022 at the NEC in Birmingham – Design Engineering Expo, Engineering Expo, Manufacturing Expo and Maintec. Together the events showcase end-to-end manufacturing and engineering solutions, to encourage business and knowledge sharing across a range of sectors including Aerospace, Automotive, Food and beverage, Motorsport, Energy & renewables, Pharmaceuticals, Space and FMCG.
CPD accredited educational content
Delivering tangible value for time away from the desk, M&E Week will provide a programme of CPD accredited sessions across 9 theatres. Packed with invaluable content, the main keynote conference stages will host an unrivalled line up inspiring leaders and innovators to debate current issues and challenge thinking with a particular focus on SME’s and OEM’s strategy. Speakers include, Rosa Wilkinson, Director of Policy from the High Value Manufacturing Catapult and Lord Hutton former Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform. The workshop theatres will feature supplier case study led presentations delivering practical solutions aimed at improving process and efficiencies.
Digital sessions will also run the day before and after the live 2 day event as a show preview and review, with special guests including Professor Juergen Maier CBE, Co-Chair of Made Smarter UK and Brian Holliday, MD of Siemens (Digital Industries).
Market leading suppliers
M&E Week will showcase Britain’s best products and services propelling the future of the engineering and manufacturing industry. From design services, additive manufacturing, AI, cyber security, robotics & automation, enterprise resource planning (ERP) and instrumentation through to testing and measurement and maintenance, visitors will be able to meet the suppliers who can deliver the latest tech and innovations to drive the sector forward.

There are also two drop in Clinics run over both days set up to help visitors get answers to immediate design, engineering, manufacturing and maintenance problems. Topics include corporate finance, R&D, VAT, customs & duty covered by MHA and guidance on the digital tools, innovation & skills that make an everyday business difference provided by Made Smarter Innovation: Innovate UK KTN.
A dedicated innovation zone, sponsored by Arrow: a global provider of technology products, services and solutions, will feature live demonstrations of the most cutting edge products allowing visitors to see solutions in action and discover the latest technologies that are shaping the future of the industry in this country.
Manufacturing & Engineering Week are also bringing the Award Winning Cyber Demonstrator as a central feature to this years show. The manufacturing sector is now the third most targeted for cyber attacks with risks only likely to deepen and broaden with increasing digitisation. Many manufacturers are only at the beginning of their cyber-security journey and are looking to gain a better understanding of the current threats and source the products and services to increase cyber resilience. The live cyber demonstrator won ‘Best Feature Area’ at the Exhibition News Awards 2022 and will be recreated to deliver live immersive demonstrations on how to prepare for cyber threats, explore unknown areas of vulnerability and survive in the new age of information warfare targeted at the manufacturing and engineering sector.
The Great Egg Race is an exciting live challenge taking place over both days of the show where engineers will compete to build gadgets to propel an uncooked egg over a wall into a tractor trailer. A compare will host the challenge with winners presented with prizes onsite.
M&E Week has the support of many leading bodies including the Make UK, Institute of Engineering Designers, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Women’s Engineering Society, Institution of Mechanical Engineers, The Manufacturing Technology Centre and High Value Manufacturing Catapult and guidance of an incredible line up of experts on the Advisory Council. We are also collaborating with other event organisers running related events at the NEC the same week. Rapid New Group’s TCT 3Sixty and Med-Tech Innovation Expo are taking place in adjacent halls on the same days and visitor passes provide access across all shows.
M&E Week is a Net Zero Event
With the UK’s commitment to reach net zero emissions by 2050 the importance of sustainability for the industry is higher than ever before. Manufacturing & Engineering Week will be contributing by running a Net Zero event on the 8-9 June at the NEC in Birmingham. Total emissions of 136.8 tons of CO2 have been calculated to be generated during the running of the event which includes venue usage, materials and exhibitor and staff transport and accommodation. To offset this, the M&E Week team, in association with their Sustainability Partner, have organised the planting of 5472 trees in a dedicated M&E forest to make the event Net Zero. The team will also plant a further tree for every visitor that attends.
